CLIENT: SDSU
ROLE: WEBSITE DESIGN, UX/UI DESIGN, MOBILE RESPONSIVE
After conducting internal assessments, google analytics review and user feedback assessment, I started the redesign of NewsCenter.
The primary goals were to increase search rankings, increase local and regional news media interest and restructure the site to be more user friendly for users that come into NewsCenter "sideways".
The first solution was to build in SEO prompts into the editorial style guide so content editors were reminded where and how to tailor their content to be SEO friendly. The second approach was to introduce story keyword labeling and filtering. The benefit here was an increased likelyhood that visitors would explore related content that might have otherwise been missed. And lastly, restructuring story pages to be more content rich — so when visitors came directly to the story page from a search result there would be more options available.
As a result of these improvements, media hits improved as more relevant SDSU news was showing up in search results. Bounce rates were lowered. Chronologically older stories saw newly improved readership.
